Homework:  Elapsed time quiz tomorrow.  Refer to notebook examples and/or make up your own events and times to practice at home.

Finding start time is the hardest.  Take your time as you go “back in time”.

Week 1 done! Yeah!!!!

Kids have done well so far with elapsed time.  I teach this concept using open number lines which may be different for some kids, but works well for most.  If they don’t like it, they can prove to me that they can answer these questions using another method, and that is fine.

Ask them at home about how to determine elapsed time using an empty number line.

Welcome back.  Our first day of school went well.  Some students need additional supplies so please check with your child.

5th grade will begin switching classes today and we will hit the ground running in math class.  We will set up notebooks and I will make my classroom expectations clear.

Students must memorize their times tables through 12’s ASAP and be prepared to take quizzes weekly until they pass (look for letter to come home with details soon).  If they do not pass this facts quiz, they will be required to complete 1 times table for homework each night M-TH, in addition to regular homework.  These will be collected for a homework grade.  GET THOSE FLASH CARDS OUT!!

Welcome to my blog.  I will update this page frequently with important information.  It might be homework for the night or the date and content of your child’s next quiz/test.  It may be general information like school-wide benchmark dates, general updates or field trip information.  Regardless, it would be a good idea to check it frequently.

Hopefully every 5th grade parent/guardian signs up for my REMIND text messages.  A notice will be sent home to all 5th grade families the 1st week of school.

PLEASE SIGN UP.  These one-way texts will be my primary means of communication and will most often mirror what is in my blog.  It will also reflect what your child should have written in their agenda (that is their responsibility).
