Students are wrapping up Order of Operations with a possible quiz today.  I will re-teach/review next Monday if needed before re-testing and moving onto circles.

Have a fun Halloween.

Homework: Order of Operations worksheet. Students MUST circle each step as they evaluate each expression. This forces them to think through the correct order (PeMDAS).

Notebooks ex.’s should reflect this strategy just as it was modeled in class.

I was out of school yesterday, but even/odd homework was assigned.  It will be collected today.

We are learning how to evaluate (or simplify) expressions by following the order of operations.  THIS IS A NEW CONCEPT and will transfer to middle school algebra.

>>>Please check with your child as they complete homework over the next few days and help as needed.  There are step by step examples for you to refer to if needed.  There will be a quiz soon.

Homework:  Wear orange tomorrow for the Bully Walk.

Review one last time for 1st 9 weeks math test tomorrow (and Thurs.if needed).  Review on skills you are struggling with.  Many 5th graders need more practice on distributive property and elapsed time, especially when you need to work backwards to find the start time.

Come with AR book to read when finished.

Homework:  Continue to review for 1st 9 weeks test that will be next Monday and/or Tuesday.

>>Students should be taking their notebooks home as well as their graded study guide.  We have been discussing the correct solutions to these questions in class, so they should be coming home with correct answer/solutions from which to guide their review.

Ex:  If they missed rounding questions, then go to your notebook and review rounding.  If you missed division problems, then go to your notebook and review division.  And so on…

Graded study guides reveal that some kids tried hard and have been listening in class,  but far too many kids did not put much effort into these questions and have a lot of catching up to do.  Grades have been posted online.

>Continue to use those questions to guide what skills you review for upcoming cumulative 1st 9 weeks test (probably next Monday-Tues.)

>Please refer to notebooks for help.  There should be plenty of step by step examples as well as several completed examples to use as a study tool.

Homework: Divide and check 12 problems in notebook (if not finished in class).

Go back and check the three division problems on your study guide to be sure you solved them correctly before I collect them tomorrow.

Refer to the various completed, step-by-step examples in your notebook if you get stuck.

Due to unforeseen benchmark schedule changes, the 5th grade math benchmark was yesterday (Thursday 10/8/15).

The completed study guides will be collected/graded today.

Students will get them back next week providing them an opportunity to ask questions and correct mistakes prior to taking a 1st 9 weeks test.

Please look for this to come home next week and help you kids practice as needed based on the questions they missed.
