HomeworkPlenty of time was provided in class to avoid homework on parent conference night, but if not done in class, finish the order of operations sheet for homework.  Please refer to the examples we have already completed and corrected in your notebooks so you do not repeat the same mistakes.  And ALWAYS circle each step as you evaluate(or simplify) each expression following the order of operations.

Go to yesterday’s post for a couple video tutorials and re-watch them if needed for extra help.

Some other reminders:

Parent conferences today from 3:45-7:45 for those that signed up.  Contact a teacher if you want a conference at another time.

Book fair tonight until 3:45-7:45.

Wear your favorite team gear tomorrow as we wrap up Red Ribbon Week and “Team Up Against Drugs”.

Bring in some $1 for PTA Friday Treat Day.

A little Motivation and Inspiration from LCES.

Homework:  Following the order of operation, evaluate both (2) expressions on the index card provided in class.  Refer to all of the completed ex’s in your notebook or re-watch the videos below.

Use PeMDAS, “Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally” to help you remember the correct order of operations.  **5th graders do NOT need to know how to evaluate exponents so there will be NO exponents in the expression.  They will learn exponents in 6th grade.

Below is a link to the Khan Academy video tutorial (copy and paste it into your web browswer.)
